Additionally it is used in controlled-release system capsule shells and wound healing applications.

1 Appearance It occurs as a white or yellowish white fibrous or granular powder; hygroscopic after drying.

(A) Specified Test. The solution becomes clear or slightly opalescent.
(B) Specified Test. The mixture remains stable.
(C) Specified Test. A yellowish white flocculent precipitate is produced which dissolves in 6 M ammonia.
(D) Specified Test. A pink colour is produced immediately which becomes violet within 100 minutes.
(E) Specified Test. A thin film is produced.
3 Solubility It is practically insoluble in hot water, in acetone, in ethanol, in ether and in toluene. It swells in wafer forming an opalescent viscous colloidal solution.
4 Appearance of solution The solution is not more opalescent than opalescence standard OS3 and not more intensely coloured than reference solution YS6.
5 pH 5.5 to 8.0.
6 Chloride Not more than 0.5%.
7 Loss on drying Not more than 10.0%.
8 Sulfated ash Not more than 3.0%

PACKAGING

MOLMELLOSE™ HPMC is packed in HDPE Bag or HDPE drum with double PE liners inside and is provided with a barcoded label and a tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in well-closed containers.
